The environment

Snaitech considers the protection of the environment as an integral part of its business strategy. For this reason, the Group’s commitment is expressed through conduct aimed at ensuring the ongoing improvement of results in the area of environmental protection, with a focus of its efforts on preventing pollution, minimizing environmental risks and impacts, and operating in line with the following principles:

• PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTING company operations following criteria aimed at preventing pollution, reducing environmental impacts, safeguarding the health and safety of employees and the public; defining specific environmental goals and improvement programs aimed at minimizing material environmental impacts;
• MANAGING natural resources and energy sustainably, fostering the proper use of the same and expanding its use of renewable sources, focusing special attention on the reduction of wastes and the rational use of resources;
• USING adequate tools for controlling and systems for monitoring the main environmental impacts generated by its business operations and improving programs put in place;
• PROMOTING awareness-raising activitites and training on environmental matters within the group, pursuing the growth and dissemination of ecological awareness and sense of responsibility.

PIANTALA! Many people together make a change

In 2022 Snaitech added a further step to its CSR journey aimed at safeguarding the environment. Through its collaboration with Rete Clima, a non-profit organisation active in sustainability and decarbonisation initiatives, the company is supporting the 'Foresta Italia' project - sponsored by MITE and Mipaaf - by planting 3,000 new trees in Lombardy, Lazio and Tuscany (1,000 plants per site). The latest scientific data indicate that the concentration of CO2 (carbon dioxide) in the Earth's atmosphere has reached record levels, generating negative repercussions for our Planet and for everyone's future. In this context, vegetation is crucial, as it removes CO2 from the atmosphere through the process of photosynthesis. To change this dangerous trend, Snaitech has involved its entire community by activating the “PIANTALA! Many people together make a change. Many trees planted make a forest”.  All employees were asked to plant new trees during 3 volunteer initiatives organised in Lombardy, Tuscany and Lazio. In 2022, the first stage was realised, with the planting of 1,000 trees in Nova Milanese. In 2023 the project will continue in Tuscany and Lazio.

In addition to actively contributing to the realization of the 2030 Agenda for the Sustainable Development of the planet, Snaitech announced in April 2021 its adherence to the United Nations Global Compact, the largest global initiative for corporate sustainability for the development, implementation and dissemination of responsible practices: an appeal to companies around the world that Snaitech has accepted with enthusiasm and responsibility.

PLASTIC FREE

The catastrophic effects of plastic pollution on the environment are increasingly worrying: every year 570,000 million tonnes of plastic end up in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, the equivalent of 33,800 plastic bottles thrown into the sea every minute. Faced with this situation, Snaitech, through its body dedicated to good causes iZilove Foundation, decided in 2022 to support the cause of Plastic Free, the most important voluntary association active in the fight against plastic pollution and in the safeguard of our ecosystem. Snaitech employees were involved in a corporate volunteering activity through which they cleaned up plastic and rubbish in some places in the cities of Rome, Lucca and Milan. Furthermore, through the support of the Schools Project, Plastic Free will carry out awareness-raising events in four schools located in Lazio, Tuscany and Lombardy. Within the same schools, water purification systems will be installed with the aim of reducing the consumption of single-use plastic, allowing each student to fill their own water bottle for free.

ALL4CLIMATE ITALY 2021

In 2021 Snaitech adds a fundamental piece to its CSR path by supporting the All4Climate Italy 2021. Launched by the Ministry of Ecological Transition in collaboration with Connect4Climate of the World Bank Group and with the participation of the Lombardy Region and the City of Milan, the All4Climate Italy 2021 brings together all the events, projects and initiatives dedicated to the theme of climate change, organized in view of the Pre-COP26 and the "Youth4Climate2021: Driving Ambition", held in Milan from September 28 to October 2.

Snaitech is deeply committed to environmental issues and the enhancement of green spaces. The equestrian district of Milan, which Snaitech owns, is a huge green lung that covers 1,300,000 square meters, about 1% of the entire area of the City of Milan, and is home to a precious botanical park and 2,700 trees.

Snaitech's commitment to the environment does not end there, however, but is reflected in concrete and tangible actions, such as the use of electricity from 100% renewable sources. A choice which not only generates a positive impact on the reduction of air pollution, but also contributes to the achievement of SDG 13, "Fight against climate change", one of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda signed by the member countries of the United Nations.
